Some songs take months to write, but “Saltire (Tartan Army)” came together in just 30 minutes during a break at work. The new single from Rodeo Terrorists, released on 27th March 2026, transforms that quick burst of inspiration into a full Scottish football anthem celebrating the Tartan Army.

The artist behind the release is Richard, a 55-year-old English IT manager with deep affection for Scotland. After studying in the country, he came to see it as a second home, and that connection sits at the centre of the song. While the track is playful and full of banter, it is also clearly built on genuine warmth for Scotland and its football supporters.

“Saltire (Tartan Army)” brings together folk-inspired melodies, Celtic atmosphere and electronic pop-rock energy. Its sound has been likened to The Waterboys meeting New Order’s “World In Motion,” which fits the song’s mixture of traditional flavour and upbeat modern football-song spirit. The hooks are designed to be catchy, direct and easy for fans to embrace.

Richard’s music journey includes an unusual link to pop history. Before returning to his own creative work, he helped build websites for stars including Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and Steps. Now, through Rodeo Terrorists, he is channelling that wider music-industry experience into a self-made release with a very personal identity.

Although the single is humorous and energetic, it also carries a serious message. Richard is using the release to support awareness of Motor Neurone Disease and raise funds for MND Scotland in memory of a close friend. With “Saltire (Tartan Army),” Rodeo Terrorists have created a song that is fun on the surface, heartfelt underneath and ready for Scotland fans to make their own.
