Scottish jazz singer-songwriter Lorna Reid is introducing her highly anticipated album I Will Tell Your Story with the release of its first single, Sweet Baby Blues. Set to be released on November 23rd, the track showcases a more intimate and emotional side of Reid’s musical style, as she takes a departure from her well-known swinging jazz band vibes.

Co-written with Darden Smith during a writer’s retreat at Moniak Mhor in the Scottish Highlands, Sweet Baby Blues is a hauntingly beautiful track that pulls at the heartstrings. The stripped-back arrangement features Reid’s powerful vocals accompanied by tender piano and a soulful sax solo. The lyrics of the song capture the feeling of longing and introspection at the late hour of 2am, making it relatable to many listeners. Reid shares that collaborating with Smith sparked a creative connection, and the process of writing Sweet Baby Blues was a memorable and enriching experience. She also notes that the song holds a special place in her heart and continues to resonate with audiences every time she performs it.

I Will Tell Your Story is a diverse mix of jazz, blues, and soul that seamlessly weaves between intimate ballads and rhythm-driven tracks. Inspired by untold stories and influenced by iconic artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, and Quincy Jones, the album promises to be a refreshing and captivating listen. Reid’s musical journey has never been conventional, and her experiences outside of the jazz world have helped shape her unique style. Her 2013 album Falling Like Dew earned her an invitation to perform at the Rochester NY International Jazz Festival, where she gained recognition for breaking away from traditional jazz norms while still paying tribute to its legacy. Recorded entirely in Scotland with the support of Creative Scotland, I Will Tell Your Story was mixed by Jon Kelly and mastered by Nick Watson at Fluid Mastering.

The album was produced by a team of talented musicians, including Boo Hewerdine, Louise Clare Marshall, Gustaf Ljunggren, and award-winning Scottish artists Euan Stevenson and Konrad Wisniewski. In addition to the release of Sweet Baby Blues and I Will Tell Your Story in March of 2025, Reid will also be performing live at various jazz clubs and festivals throughout Scotland. Fans can catch her at the Linlithgow Jazz Club on March 1st, Ayr Jazz Club on March 7th, and the Northwest Castle Jazz Weekend from October 10-12th. With its all-star lineup and emotional depth, I Will Tell Your Story is sure to be a standout album in the jazz world. Be sure to mark your calendars for November 23rd and stay tuned for this highly anticipated release from Lorna Reid.
