While most of us would be trotting off for our fourth iced latte or second McDonalds, music producer John Young used his airport delay to create a timeless track.

After touching down in London, he had the song fully written. The only thing left was to find someone who could do it justice. Up steps Laura Mitchell.

Killing Time has a classic vibe about it. The song starts with power and emotion from the off. Laura’s vocals are sensational, giving off a modern soul feel, making you wonder where she’s been hiding!

It’s reminds me of a young Adele and even has hints of Aretha Franklin at times. Some of you may think that praise is too high, but hold off on the critique before you’ve given this one a listen.

This song is more than just a voice though, the lyrics themselves draw you in to what Laura has got to say.

Young voices his feelings vicariously through Laura, appealing to the masses with a problem that nearly everyone can relate to.

We’ve all been in that position where we believe we’ve found the one, only for it to crumble shortly after it all begins (I’m not crying, you are).

This topic encompassing the lyrics means you want to keep listening and experience what’s being sung.

Every word feels as though it’s talking about what you’ve been through, giving the tune a personal gravitas that rarely exists these days.

As the heartfelt track reaches the end, we’re treated to a softer finale, topping off the single perfectly.

In her own words, Laura explains why the song meant so much to her:

‘I didn’t see this coming or work towards it. I am in a wedding band.

‘At weddings, many people ask, “Do you perform you own stuff?” or “You should go on X Factor” I didn’t have plans for that. I used to write music in my teens but worked off most of that angst and sadly stopped writing music when I started learning about it at Uni.

‘I suffered from stage fright for a long time, but through the wedding band, the ability to put on the dress and heels and become a rock star – singing other people’s songs, I become someone else.’
