Taking inspiration from his time at King’s College London, the Vietnamese artist, Kiey, has produced a funky electro-pop track to pay homage to his time in the big city.
He first began a career in music in 2015, when life was normal. During his down time at University, Kiey would take every opportunity to learn how to produce music and it has certainly paid off.
‘Piccadilly’ is a dreamy track that really draws you in. As its first notes ring out, it strikes me as a bit of a dance anthem, but it quickly becomes so much more.
Kiey’s lyrics and vocals compliment the track so well. His soft voice, singing about how he misses his old flat round the corner from Piccadilly Circus, marries brilliantly with the harsher dance tune at the start.
This mix of harsh and soft means your senses are completely focused on the song. the wide range of sounds keeps every part of you interested in what he’s got to say.
Aside from that though, it has to be said that the beat is a great dance tune that you could definitely find yourself grooving to.
However, for me, the best part of the song is the fact that it doesn’t try:
A) too hard
B) to be something it’s not
Kiey keeps the song simple yet effective with his heartfelt lyrics. As the song progresses you can really feel the emotional connection that he has with the song, just making it even more special.

Although it may sound like he’s been able to pratice freely to perfect his talents, Kiey’s homeland paints a very different picture.
In Vietnam, their Communist rule means music like Kiey’s is frowned upon. Often, the airwaves will be filled with classic ballads.
He wasn’t prepared to let this stop him though. He was determined to produce music like his icons such as Lana Del Ray, Sia and Troye Sivan.
The result is an electro melancholic track set in a neon utopia, where Kiey dreams of being back in his flat in London.
He may live thousands of miles away, but clearly some dreams are just too strong. Alongside the track, a fitting video is to be released on Halloween to accompany the single.
With an album release penned in for early 2021, I’m excited to see what’s next from the man who produces, masters and records everything himself. Do his talents know no bounds?
